The article analyzes the historical conditions of the military aggression and expansion of the Catholic West European states into the north-eastern Russia in the first half of the XIII century. On the basis of the written sources and a wide range of works of pre-revolutionary Russian historians and modern scholars it gives a systematic description of the events related to the struggle of the Russian lands against the crusaders’ aggression, shows the battle formation and tactics of the Russian troops in the Battle on the Ice, Lake Chudskoe, discloses essential features of the strategic talent of Alexander Nevsky, which appeared in the Battle on the Ice, justifies the historical significance of the battle.

To the great feat - the victory over fascism in the Battle of Moscow
The article discusses the importance of the Battle of Moscow in the Soviet victory in the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War in the context of modern civilization development in Russia and the further fate of mankind. It is alleged that the Battle of Moscow was a turning point and a radical change in the war. The article discloses the following notions: "radical change", "a turning point in the war" and "twist in the war". It shows their methodological significance for the understanding of the value of the Great Victory over fascism. It emphasizes the importance of the victory in the Battle of Moscow to effectively address the problems of the Russian statehood development.

The defeat of the German forces in the counter-offensive of the Red Army near Moscow did not turn out to be a disaster for them
On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the end of the counterattack near Moscow in December, 1941 the author puts and considers a question of why the first great defeat of the German troops on the Soviet-German front did not become a catastrophic crash for them. It gives numerous digital materials and also affirms that during the counterattack near Moscow the change not only in the Great Patriotic War, but also in the entire World War II began. The special importance to the success of the Red Army is in the fact that it has been made in the situation of the numeral superiority of the German troops. The article analyzes the factors behind the defeat of the enemy: successful solution of a problem of time of the counterattack, suddenness, large reserve forces involved, courage of the Soviet soldiers, etc.

The game in the «Unthinkable»: German card
The article provides a retrospective analysis of military-political developments on the European continent on the eve of the victory over Nazi Germany in the early postwar months. It was then Prime Minister Winston Churchill instructed the Staff of the United planning of the war Cabinet of Great Britain to prepare a plan for emergency operations against the Soviet Union, code-named «Unthinkable». The developers of the plan put a great role on the German military units stationed in the British zone of occupation in Germany. The materials cited in the article, give the opportunity to the wider scientific community to see the little-known pages of history.

Special features of the information interaction between Russia and the CSTO member-states
The article presents the results of the analysis of the information interaction between the Russian Federation and the CSTO countries in 1992-2016. It outlines the main stages of the information interaction, particularly analyzes the activities of the state and military agencies in the area of the information interaction with each member-state. It shows that the information interaction contributed to the transformation of the CSTO (by 2016) in a new geopolitical structure that is functioning on new organizational principles, but retains its integrity.

The first secondary military educational institution to advance the officers, technical specialists of the Russian army
The article is devoted to the history of the Military Electrical and Technical School, engaged in the training of personnel for the engineering troops of the Russian army in the late XIX - early XX century. The authors, using archival data, discuss the structural organization of the school, its staffing with non-permanent personnel, the organization of the educational process and its material and technical support. The particular attention is paid to the research and experimental work of lecturers and cadets which contributed to the development of the military-technical thought. It highlights the contribution of the school to the development of field engineering, as well as to the introduction and development of radio communications in the army and navy.

History of the Bogorodsky Regiment: events and people
The article is dedicated to the 209th infantry Bogorodsky regiment, which history is inextricably linked with the history of Bogorodsk (now Noginsk). Based on the archival, museum and family data, it restores milestones of the regiment’s creation and combat path. The particular attention is paid to the history of the saving of the regimental Banner of St. George. The research carried out by the city administration and a number of public organizations to recreate the regimental history, in the opinion of the author, contributes to preserving the historical memory and patriotic education of Russian citizens.

Promoting patriotism in the process of formation of historical consciousness of members of the Armed Forces of Russia
The article raises the problem of how to teach patriotism with the servicemen through the active formation of their historical consciousness. It shows that the process of the cognition of history by a person is the processing of historical information into a set of representations of society as a whole and its social groups in isolation, of its past and the past of all mankind. From a critical point of view it considers the existing regulatory documents that determine the conduct of military history work in the Russian Armed Forces and the practice of its implementation. The author concludes that the complexity of the formation in modern conditions of historical consciousness is the modern research situation, which is characterized by some uncertainty in the understanding of its object and content. A discussion on the indicated problem is proposed, including within scientific journals.

Experience of sociological research of children's and youth military patriotic organizations: based on the all-Russian social movement "Yunarmia"
The article analyzes one of the aspects of the work of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on patriotic education of Russian citizens – the creation of a youth organization "Yunarmija". Based on the results of sociological research, the authors assess the level of patriotic consciousness of members of the movement, basic moral principles and social feelings. On the basis of expert opinion – leaders and teachers "Yunarmija" analyses the main issues of the organization of patriotic work with young people and the importance of this movement in creating an effective system of military-patriotic education in Russia.

State-Patriotic worldview of the Russian national guardsmen
The article examines the scientific and theoretical foundations and some problems of the formation of the outlook of guardsmen. It analyzes socio-political prerequisites and approaches to the theoretical review, the conditions for the formation and development of the worldview of the servicemen of the new structure as well as their state-patriotic content. The authors come to the conclusion that the creation of the new structure of the modern Russian state is impossible without the formation of a conscious attitude of the servicemen to the socio-political reality, high spirituality and state-patriotic worldview.

The article presents the substantiation of the idea of self-development of the individual in the activity that is the basis for the design and implementation of the model for the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel in the higher military educational institutions and is corresponding to the imperatives of continuous qualitative changes in the military pedagogical process. The research is based on the experience of the creation and functioning of such a model at the Military University. The main result of the study is an attempt to design and implement a model of scientific and pedagogical preparation of the associates (adjuncts) of higher military schools, which is aimed at the self-development of an individual.

A monograph – You Must be a Patriot, You Must be a Citizen – was published. In developing the research, the authors tried, on the one hand, to give readers a general idea of the patriotic education of a citizen in Russia and, on the other, to show the peculiarities of the upbringing of patriotism and citizenship among the teachers, officer cadets and cadets (students) of the Military University of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The author examines the events related to the deployment, invasion and conduct of combat operations by the personnel of the 108th motorized rifle division in Afghanistan during the initial period of the war from December 1979 to December 1981.
