The article is dedicated to the Battle of Moscow in 1612. It considers Russian historical events in the period of formation of the Second People’s Militia. It analyzes composition of the forces of the opposing sides, gives the characteristics of the command structure of the Polish-Lithuanian forces and the militia. The course of the three-day Moscow battle and the decisions made by commanders are shown in details. It reveals the historical significance of the victory of the national Russian forces over the interventionists for the restoration of the Russian statehood, which in fact was lost during the period known as Time of Troubles.

Civil war in the context of Russian history: the reality of an objective approach
The article considers the essence, background and causes of the Civil War in Russia (1917–1922). The author attempted to reveal the reasons for the defeat of the White movement, historical consequences and lessons of the Civil War objectively without myths and falsifications. It is concluded that the Civil War in Russia was engendered by a complex set of social contradictions, economic, political, psychological and other causes, and became the greatest disaster for Russia.

The Muses were not quiet when the cannons spoke: the cultural ties of the USSR with the allies during the Second World War
The article highlights the course of cultural cooperation established after the Nazi Germany invasion to the USSR between cultural, information and propaganda organizations of the Soviet Union, on the one hand, and the United States and the Great Britain, on the other hand. It shows the contribution of the greatest workers of culture to the establishment of mutual understanding between the peoples of the allied powers. It reveals the fundamental geopolitical and ideological contradictions that existed between members of the anti-Hitler coalition and limited the scope and depth of cultural exchange, and, at the end of the war, reduced it to a minimum.

The article discusses the peculiarities of the Soviet artillery usage during the battle of Stalingrad in the course of the Great Patriotic War. It tells about the new forms of cannon and rocket artillery and mortars use while preparing for defensive and offensive operations and battles. Special attention is paid to the artillery preparation and fire support of Soviet troops at the transition to counterattack. The role and the value of the artillery in the Red army’s victory in the battle of Stalingrad are shown.

Administrative and legal regimes as a tool for ensuring national security: qualification and application problems
The issues of ensuring national security are considered through the prism of administrative and legal regimes in this article. The author suggests the definition of “administrative and legal regime”, discusses its intrinsic features and gives the main classifications of administrative and legal regimes. The problem of the qualification of administrative and legal regimes is described on the example of the current situation in the southeast of Ukraine. It is concluded that the Ukrainian authorities deliberately substitute the form and content of the administrative and legal regimes used for resolving the armed conflict that eventually makes the legal element to disappear in them.

Dangerous conjunction: “hybrid wars” and “color revolutions”
The article discusses the problems of counteracting the use of modern destructive social technologies reformatting the political space with the help of “hybrid wars” understood as a form of undeclared, secret military actions of one state against state structures, the regular army and the population of the adversary and the so-called “color revolutions” as a political technology regarding the peaceful replacement of undesirable political regimes. Based on the analysis of modern political science literature, a conclusion is made about the increasing possibility of the complex application of these technologies against our country. A number of measures is proposed in the political sphere in order to ensure the national security of Russia in these conditions.

The article analyzes the problems of the military labor market and its main characteristics. The author pays particular attention to the specifics of supply and demand in the market, factors that influence them, infrastructure support for this segment and the main stages of socio-economic support for professional servicemen in the post-Soviet period, as well as the positive changes that took place in its course. The author declares transition from the practice of socio-economic protection of servicemen and their families to the economic provision of this category of citizens. The publication is devoted to the prominent political worker of the Soviet Armed Forces, Colonel-General Gennady Vasilievich Sredin, who began military service during the Great Patriotic War as an agitator of the rifle regiment. The author, who personally knew Gennady Vasilyevich since 1954, warmly remembers him as a person who during the service even on high positions of the Member of the Military Command Council, the First Deputy Chief of the Main Political Directorate of the Soviet Army and the Navy, the Head of the Military Political Academy named after V. I. Lenin, always had respectful and caring attitude towards his colleagues, regardless of their age and official status.

The article reveals the author’s approach to understanding the place and role of the moral and psychological state of servicemen in a system of factors that have a decisive influence on the course and outcome of the war. An analysis of various psychological views and approaches to understanding the essence and description of mental states is carried out. The article deals with the problems of the theory and practice of interaction between the Russian Ministry of Defense and other law enforcement agencies with the Russian Orthodox Church in modern conditions. The role and place of the military clergy (assistants to commanders for working with religious servicemen) is shown in the system of moral and psychological support. The article describes the features of the spiritual choice of a soldier and an officer of the Russian army in conditions of the imposition of consumer standards of conduct to Russia. Such elements of the spiritual choice structure as freedom of choice, conviction in the correctness of the decision, readiness for responsibility, assessment of possible consequences are indicated. The reasons for the complication of the serviceman’s spiritual choice are shown, the main of which are the imposition of consumer values, materialism, rejection of traditions, as well as extremely egotistic attitude towards other people.

Army-2017: Military University’s innovative solutionsа
On August 27, the Army-2017 International Military Technical Forum organized by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation came to an end. This is the third large-scale event to welcome large domestic and foreign enterprises of the defense industrial complex, leading design bureaus, research institutes and military educational institutions. For the first time the Military University of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation showcased its innovative solutions for such a magnificent review of scientific and technological achievements for the Russia’s defense.

Held on September 12, 2017 Suvorov Readings became an important event at the beginning of the Military University’s new academic year. The event was held in the form of a scientific and practical conference on the relevant subject: “Construction and development of the system of moral and psychological support: achievements and challenges of the scientific school of the Military University”. The Readings brought together students and cadets studying under the programs of the magistracy and humanitarian specialty, who will occupy positions in the bodies for work with personnel upon graduation.

On the centenary’s eve of the October Revolution of 1917 military historians of the Federal Service of the Russian National Guard troops wrote and published a military historical work "Local troops and guard in World War I" highlighting the historical events preceding the most important period of Russia’s history related to the radical reshaping of Russia's political system.
