This article focuses on the outset of the Armed Forces formation of the first socialist state seen as an unprecedented socio-political and economic state system. It features causes and specifics of the military organization shaping of the young Soviet Republic under conditions of the ongoing war against Germany. Certain attention is paid to the Red Army Day celebrated on February 23. This paper is dedicated to the centenary of the Red Army and military counterintelligence bodies. It features the organization, Cheka’s special branches tasks and rights, as well as the main lines of activity of army security officers during the Civil War in Russia. Based on documentary sources, the authors show that the measures taken by the military counterintelligence to ensure security of the Red Army’s formations made a significant contribution to the victory of Soviet Russia over anti-Bolshevik forces.

It reveals contradictions and difficulties related to the Red Army formation. This article features specifics of the Red Army as the army of a socialist state. It covers a brief history of the Red (Soviet) Army’s victorious past. Wars in pre-class society: the word of archeology 

Archaeological data indicate the existence of military operations in the pre-class society. This is indicated by the characteristic combat traumas of buried people, the signs of the siege of fortified points by large armies, the morphological differentiation of combat weapons from hunting equipment and the progressive improvement of means of attack and defense. The Battle of Stalingrad and the collapse of Japan and Germany’s plans to divide Eurasia along the 70th degree meridian 

This article examines the Battle of Stalingrad’s role in turning the tide of the Great Patriotic War, and its fateful impact on the further course of World War II at its other theaters. It reveals the plans of Germany and Japan, the main aggressors, to completely ruin the USSR and to divide Eurasia along the 70th degree meridian. This research focuses on the reasons for Japan's forced transition to strategic defense at the Asia-Pacific Theater and the subsequent complete collapse of the coalition strategy of the fascist-militaristic bloc in the world war.

This year will celebrate the Danube Military-Strategic Operation’s 50th anniversary. Supported by a number of prominent public figures of Czechoslovakia having signed the request to deploy troops for the defense of socialism, 5 member states of the Warsaw Pact crossed the border of the country on August 20, 1968. Philosophical and methodological foundations of designing information and communication technologies distorting the history of Russia 

The article is devoted to aggravation of information confrontation in the sphere of historical consciousness of Russian society. New information and communication technologies of a sociohumanitarian nature based on philosophical ideas of constructivism, phenomenology, postmodernism have a great influence on the perception of the past. Young people become very vulnerable to information strikes. These technologies are used for the loss of value orientations, oblivion of spiritual traditions and the severance of communication between generations of Russians.

Lies versus truth: fake news as today’s information-political trend 

This article focuses on the well-known and requiring no translation phenomenon of fake news as a trend of nowadays information warfare. The recent years have witnessed western media increasingly resorting to fake news. Due to purely conjunctural factors or in the course of revealing loyalty to certain political forces, media make use of various ways of exerting impact on the audience. Double standards of assessment and the “enemy state” image demonization are among basic techniques. To support this judgment this research offers specific examples. Given the global network mass media are becoming one of the key instruments to promote political will in international politics, the author reiterates the need for scrupulous studying the specifics of information warfare, namely the methods aimed to determine levels of information confrontation, as well as ways of adequate response to possible challenges.

Crowd sourcing technologies as part of information-psychological warfare via social networks 

This article reflects the authors’ classification of the information-psychological warfare patterns. It features a correlation between the information-psychological warfare patterns and types of propaganda. The concepts of “soft force”, “click-behavior” and “grey zone” are discussed. This paper substantiates the need for studying psychological mechanisms of information-psychological impact on users of social networks and virtual messengers. The priority counteroffensive directions to provide Russia’s security supported by gaming in military-social practices 

This article outlines priorities in safeguarding Russia’s security in conditions of gaming of military-social practices applied by opponents. Within the framework of domestic social practices, the use of western-type game tools is improbable, the author concludes. This paper assumes that active counteroffensive counteraction to the complex of world outlook, cognitive, spiritual and other acts unleashed against Russia will be carried out through disclosure of the double-faced, degrading and destructive activities of Anglo-Saxons’ policies in economics, culture and other fields. Counteraction implies detection of Anglo-Saxons’ infrastructural vulnerabilities and also improvement of forms and ways of armed struggle through involvement of reflexive games’ techniques and algorithms conditioned by national mentality.

Budgetary expenses for arms, military and special equipment research and development: mechanism and implementation analysis 

This article focuses on the budgetary financing mechanism for research and development (R&D) of weapons, military and special equipment (MSE) in the Russian Federation. It reveals nowadays systemic problems in this area hindering effectiveness of R&D. These include: unrealistic assessment of financial support required, pricing for research and purchased products, as well as rationalization of R&D. It reiterates the need to improve the mechanism for the State Arms Program implementation and to increase the efficiency of R&D activities in the development of MSE.

A.E. Snesarev’s military-spiritual heritage

A.E. Snesarev’s rich theoretical legacy is the basis for training of talented young people studying in Russia’s military higher educational institutions. This idea was clearly reflected in speeches delivered by participants of the inter-university scientific and practical conference "A.E. Snesarev’s Military and Spiritual Heritage in the Context of Nowadays Challenges to Russian and World Geopolitics". The conference was held by the Military University of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on December 14, 2017. It summed up the results of the annual competition of scientific works by cadets, students and young researchers. The winners were awarded diplomas and prizes named after A.E. Snesarev.



On the laws of war: issues of military theory and methodology

The words "peace and security" as salient features of the modern era reflect nowadays generations’ desire to exclude the threat of war from their lives, but the practice of our everyday life suggests the opposite: wars and armed conflicts are reluctant to vanish. “Afghan veterans” in service with the Military University!

On the eve of the 29th anniversary of the Soviet troops’ withdrawal from the Republic of Afghanistan the Military University of the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense held a meeting of veterans of those far away events. It was dedicated to Afghan soldiers having fulfilled their international duty and now employed by the University as pedagogues.

On the eve of the Defender of the Fatherland Day the Military University of the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense held an awards ceremony to honour the winners of the "Best Teacher" and "Best Scientific Researcher" competitions of the year 2017. The contests are aimed to stimulate teaching staff and researchers, to enhance their professional skills, competency, professional qualifications and research mastery.
